About Us.

Welcome to Woodnewton Workshops, run by us, Liam & Cleo. Our studio is steeped in history, housed in an early 1800s converted Chapel. It was established in 1989 by Liam's grandfather, Rob Bibby. You might have known us as Woodnewton Pottery, but we've recently changed our name to better reflect our expanded offerings.

Our own journeys into craft have been shaped by dedicated study and hands-on experience. Liam, who has apprenticed under Rob from a very young age, also holds a Bachelor's in Illustration from Leeds Arts University and honed his printmaking skills at the historic Birmingham School of Art. Cleo's extensive artistic background comes from their BA in Fine Art and a Master's in Art & Design, both obtained from Leeds Beckett University.

The workshop has recently expanded the types of courses we have on offer. We're now thrilled to offer courses in printmaking and silver clay jewellery making, with plans to introduce even more crafts in the future.

At our heart, we have a deep passion for preserving and passing on the knowledge of these traditional and contemporary crafts, ensuring these valuable skills continue to thrive for generations to come.

Our Founder.

Rob Bibby is a well renown potter with over 50 years of experience in the craft. His distinctive, colourful, and meticulously hand-decorated functional earthenware pieces can be found for sale in our gallery space or here on our online gallery shop.

While Rob no longer teaches full-time with us, he's still sharing his knowledge, offering pottery lessons in one-to-one sessions or for small groups from his new home studio in nearby Kings Cliffe. (Please call for further details)

We are incredibly proud to have taken over the reins from Rob. His decades-long commitment to the craft has fundamentally shaped our ethos here at the workshop. Embracing his relaxed and intuitive approach to teaching and his brilliant, sometimes quirky, inventiveness and do-it-yourself attitude he applies to his practice. We strive to continue his legacy by sharing that expertise and creative spirit with every student.
